The Siemens ADVIA 120 is one of the professional hematology analysis systems in the high-end laboratory class and has been specifically developed for use in hospitals, university hospitals, research institutions, and veterinary laboratories.

With a sample throughput of up to 120 blood samples per hour, the system is suitable for laboratories with a high sample volume and enables fast, reproducible, and largely automated blood cell diagnostics.

The device automatically creates a comprehensive CBC and determines, among other things, the number, size, and distribution of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

In addition, the system analyzes reticulocytes (young red blood cells) and thus provides important information about the activity of blood formation in the bone marrow.

A particular advantage of the ADVIA 120 is its differentiated evaluation of white blood cells.

Through modern optical measurement methods, laser light scattering, and cell-specific staining techniques, various leukocyte populations can be reliably distinguished.

Abnormal or immature cell populations are detected and marked accordingly, so that, if necessary, a further microscopic examination can be carried out.

The analysis of red blood cells also goes far beyond a standard CBC.

In addition to the cell count, cell size, hemoglobin content, cell volume, and other hematological parameters are determined, among other things, which allows, for example, different forms of anemia or changes in blood formation to be better assessed.

Thanks to the available multispecies software, the system is not only suitable for human medicine but can also be used – depending on the software configuration – in veterinary and experimental research institutions.
